Settled in the Warwickshire town of Warwick, Warwick Castle is one of the country’s finest and most well-visited Medieval castles.
Warwick castle has an impressive heritage, the Castle remains one of the areas hottest tourists’ attractions, largely since the Castle itself is amazing, and with the countless events at the venue remains of the best attraction out there.
Warwick Castle was developed from a wooden fort. It was built by William the Conqueror in 1068. Warwick is the county town of Warwickshire, England, situated on the River Avon. The original wooden motte-and-bailey castle was rebuilt in stone during the 12th century. During the Hundred Years War, the facade opposite the town was rebuilt, resulting in one of the most recognisable examples of 14th-century military architecture. It was used as a stronghold until the early 17th century, in 1604, it was converted to a country house.
Tragically, an enormous part of Warwick Castle was destroyed in a fire in 1871, and the Great Hall was heavily damaged, having only recently been reroofed and redesigned. However, it was later repaired between 1872 and 1875, after many members of the public donated to the cause.
